Mr. Chuck Hahn, our 7th and 8th Grade Teacher recently wrote an article for The Reporter, an LCMS periodical, and for our weekly school newsletter called the Post. We'd like to share that article with you.
“At Prince of Peace it is the belief that our role as educators "to impart the tools of success" applies to the student's faith life even more so than to academics. The students in our school today are the church leaders of tomorrow and God will use them to steer His church and keep it Scripturally accurate. We only have these young people for a moment before they chart their own course so we must take advantage of every opportunity that we are given to share in the guidance and shaping of these young lives that God has placed in our instructional care.
The demands of a modern, time-hungry world steal from today's parents what in past generations were numerous opportunities to instruct within home Bible studies and regular family devotions. As our children pass through adolescence to young adulthood, they begin to throw away the wonders of childhood and trade them for an inquiry that demands answers.
Where they find these answers will affect their lives forever. The temptations are very real and our youth are on the front lines of this very real spiritual battle. The opportunity that Prince of Peace offers families to supplement and support the middle-school age student in their maturing faith-walk is beyond value. In addition to daily prayers and devotions, faith support is continual and divided between a wide range of studies.
The study of the Old and New Testaments (NIV) through the Voyages course illustrates in detail through course work and Bible study how since before Creation, God's truth has not changed. A Class favorite series, "That the World May Know", allows us through video, work sheets and discussion to be a part of a guided Bible tour of the Holy Land. We study the cultural influences of that time and of course discuss how these Bible stories apply to us today.
Through numerous other programs like the "Stranger Series" and "Life's Story, we seek additional understanding of practical applications of faith. And finally, within "The Lies of Evolution" studies each week we discuss other very real attacks on our faith coming from unexpected sources. The student's ability to recognize the science fiction called evolution is vital as a supplement to the young person's core knowledge of the truth of Divine Creation.
The students enjoy these areas of study and, as a Christian educator to personally be a part of their growth in faith knowledge, quite often leaves me humbled as I see all that our Heavenly Father has done and continues to do in their lives.”
